ABSTRACT:

Introduction: About 285 million people are visually impaired worldwide. 39 million are blind and 246 million have low vision. About, 90% of the worlds visually impaired people live in developing countries. In India an estimated 236,900 children up to the age of eighteen are visually impaired which is around 11% of the total visually impaired population of India. Of these children, around 7% are in the adolscent age group. in Gujarat 0.95%blind girls2. Objective: To assess knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene among visually challenged adolscent girls at selected blind school of north Gujarat, To evaluate the effectiveness of audio drama on knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene among visually challenged adolscent girls, To find out association of knowledge with their selected socio demographic variable. Material and Method: A pre experimental one group pre test –post test design approach under taken in north Gujarat blind schools, data collection was there 60 visually challenged adolscent girls, Intervention: The information given by myself about the menstrual hygiene through audio drama by an recorded in CD over 15 to 20 minutes Results: the obtained data were analyzed and interpreted by using descriptive and inferential statistics, the mean post test knowledge score 13.54 was higher than pre test mean knowledge score 5.83 with the mean difference of 7.71 and the statistically audio drama effectives is identified by using T-test. the calculation ‘ T’ value is 21.48 greater than tabled t (2.00) Conclusion: : audio drama is one of the best method for visually challenged adolscent girls to obtain a good knowledge of menstrual hygiene.

INTRODUCTION:

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY:

“Imagine the life one has to live without seeing the beauty of the beauty of the rising sun, beauty of the blooming flowers and even unable to see the face of his mother”2 eyes are the most precious organs in the human body used for viewing the world. so one has to face innumerable difficulties in the absence of vision.4 Menarche is the first menstrual cycle or first menstrual bleeding5, Menarche usually begins between the ages of 9-15, about two years after the onset of puberty. the average age of menarche is 12-13, but it can be normal for it to happen earlier to late. The menstrual cycle is a very important indicator of womens reproductive health and their endocrine function5. PROBLEM STATEMENT:

A study to assess the effectiveness of audio drama on knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene among visually challenged adolscent girls at selected blind school of north Gujarat ”

OBJECTIVE:

·       To assess knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene among visually challenged adolscent girls.

·       To evaluate the effectiveness of audio drama on knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene among visually challenged adolscent girls.

·       To find out the association of knowledge with their selected socio demographic variable.

HYPOTHESIS:

H0: There will be no significant different between pretest and post test knowledge score regarding menstrual hygiene among visually challenged girls at selected blind school of north Gujarat.at 0.05 level significant.

H1: There will be significant association between the pre test and post test knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene among visually challenged girls at selected blind school of north Gujarar.at 0.05 level significant.

METHODOLOGY:

A evaluative research approach was adopted for this study. The research design selected was pre experimental one group pre- test post test design. The study was conducted in northh Gujarat. 60 visually challenged adolscent girls selected by non probability consequative sampling technique. Data collection done after obtaining permission from authority, self structured interview questionnaire was used to collect data regarding menstrual hygiene, prepared tool was validated by different experts

Finding related to association between posttest knowledge score of visually challenged adolscent girls with selected demographic variables:

These finding demographic that there was no significant association between post test knowledge score with their selected demographic variables.

CONCLUSION:

The main conclusion from this present study is that most of the visually challenged adolscent girls had poor knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene in pre test and had improved to get extent after intervention which was revealed in post test. This shows the imperative need to understand the utilities of audio drama in improvement of knowledge regarding menstrual hygiene among visually challenged adolscent girls.
